Our Story

About the Author

Lucy Grumbles is a registered nurse whose career has been dedicated to caring for patients and supporting families through life's most challenging moments. She spent more than a decade as a pediatric oncology nurse, before transitioning to adult oncology, where she continues to serve patients.

As the spouse of a U.S. Navy service member and the mother of four children, Lucy understands firsthand both the joys and the unique challenges of military family life. She has also served as a Navy Ombudsman, advocating for and supporting military families through deployments and other transitions.

Inspired by her own family's deployment experiences and the extraordinary sacrifice of Charlie, a military working dog who gave his life protecting her husband and fellow service members in Iraq, Lucy created Together with Charlie to help children stay connected with a deployed parent in a meaningful and imaginative way.

Through her books, Lucy hopes to bring comfort, spark important conversations, and create lasting traditions that strengthen the bond between military families, no matter how many miles separate them.
